We have big dreams over here on the Realm Makers Advisory Board. When you get us together, the ideas are always flowing, and the challenge is often choosing between the best ideas and only biting off slightly more than we can chew.
We’ve come a long way since the last time we were at UMSL for the 2013 conference. We’re tracking to set a new record for attendance, we’ve upgraded the catering to eliminate the need for midday shuttles, and we’re prepared to offer you a whole new level of content than we have in any conference before this year’s.
If you’re wondering what we have brewing that’s new for 2015, here’s a run-down of the most significant changes we’ve made.
In addition to offering 50-minute elective classes, this year you can choose between 3 information-packed options for our new Continuing Sessions tracks. Each of our Continuing Sessions will offer almost 8 hours of intensive instruction in areas like editing, world building, or marketing. Wherever you are in your writing journey, there’s a track to get you to the next milestone.
Be aware, each of these continuing sessions has a “cap” for attendance, so register early so you get to attend the Continuing Session of your preference. For detailed information on each track, visit the Realm Makers website.
Early Bird Session
Are you arriving the Thursday before the conference? No need to wander UMSL’s campus looking for other writers…elect Jeff Gerke’s early bird session! Anyone who has ever taken a class from Jeff knows this will be fast-paced, valuable, and full of laughs to boot. Come hear the groundbreaking concept Jeff has been writing about for his newest Writer’s Digest book, The Irresistible Novel.
Want a chance to go deeper with your individual manuscript? Team Splickety will be on hand to help you do just that—learn tricks to polishing up that prose and work together with your classmates and instructors to get practical advice one where you might tighten your work.
Saturday Night Fight Panel
There just aren’t enough hours in two 9 to 5 days of instruction to do everything that’s awesome, so we’ve decided to add some content to Saturday night. This year, it will involve a panel of our faculty responding to drafts of fight scenes. We’ll hear what works and what doesn’t, we might even need to act out some of it to illustrate. Expect experts, foam swords, and laughs as we whip some fight scenes into shape.
Zombie Apocalypse Nerf War
And for the young at heart, what would a speculative fiction conference be without a zombie apocalypse? Bring your nerf gun of choice and plenty of ammo, and see if you can survive the zombie invasion.
Shooting and dodging not your thing? Don’t worry, we’ll set aside some space to play Settlers of Catan or any other number of table games that appeal to those who would rather laugh at the zombies than be infected by them.
So if those reasons are enough to convince you to join us, visit our site and read through the amazing faculty that will be teaching and encouraging attendees. There’s no other conference where people of faith who create speculative fiction will be able to find “their tribe” like they will at Realm Makers.
Don’t forget! Early bird pricing only lasts until May 31! Register before the price increase for the best choices in paid critiques and Continuing Sessions.
