Greetings, Spekkies!

The new year is going along nicely, and so are our plans for this year’s Realm Maker’s conference. In preparation for the weekend of awesome, we thought you might like a peak behind the scenes at our staff and all the magical things they do to make it possible.

This week, we’re meeting with Nadine Brandes, Lindsay Franklin, and Kat Heckenbach.

Nadine Brandes
nadine What does she do for Realm Makers?
Nadine works as the volunteer coordinator for Realm Makers, which means she organizes and assigns tasks to her hoard of minions (a.k.a. volunteers) drafted to do her bidding (a.k.a. serve willingly) at the conference.

Nadine’s Bio:

Nadine Brandes is an adventurer, fusing authentic faith with bold imagination. Her dystopian trilogy, the Out of Time Series, challenged her to pursue shalom, which is now her favorite word (followed closely by ‘bumbershoot’.) When Nadine’s not taste-testing a new chai, editing fantasy novels, or being a Harry Potter super-nerd, she and her knight-in-shining armor (nickname: “hubby”) are out chasing adventures.
Lindsay Franklin
lindsay What does she do for Realm Makers?
Lindsay is our Faculty Coordinator. She serves as the link between the Advisory Board/Director and the faculty members. She keeps track of faculty-related expenses, extends invitations to prospective faculty members, and takes care of faculty needs during the conference. Basically, if it has the word “faculty” in it, she should probably be looking after it.
Lindsay’s Bio:
Lindsay Franklin is a homeschooling mother of three by day, a freelance editor by night, and an award-winning fantasy and YA contemporary author on the weekends. She managed the flash fiction mayhem for two years as Senior Operations Manager at Splickety Publishing Group, is a Bible college student, and teaches fiction to homeschooled junior high and high school students. She may or may not be addicted to full-leaf tea. Don’t tell anyone. Connect with Lindsay on Facebook, Twitter, or her website.
Kat Heckenback
KATWhat does she do for Realm Makers?
Kat is the Appointment Coordinator–it is her job to bend time and space so that attendees can meet with their requested faculty members.
Kat’s Bio:
Kat is a graduate of the University of Tampa, Magna Cum Laude, B.S. in Biology. She spent several years teaching, but never in a traditional classroom–everything from Art to Algebra II—and now homeschools her two children. Her writing spans the gamut from inspirational personal essays to dark and disturbing fantasy and horror, with over fifty short fiction and nonfiction credits to her name. Her YA fantasy series includes Finding Angel and Seeing Unseen and is available in print and ebook. Enter her world at and
